  1. National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi [NIFT]

NIFT was set up at Delhi in 1986 and had only one programme of Fashion Design in its first year. The campus initially started functioning from a temporary two room set up in its formative years and shifted to a full-fledged campus in 1994. The building designed by Dr. B.V. Doshi is based on the concept of a central step-well to conserve rainwater, a traditional Indian Baoli and is listed as one of the modern Iconic architecture of Delhi. NIFT at that time had only four programmes, two at master level (Garment Manufacturing Technology & Apparel Marketing and Management) and two at bachelor level (Fashion Design and Accessory Design). Delhi is the largest campus that offers all programmes of NIFT i.e. seven bachelor and three master programmes and has the largest student strength.

Placements: The college has tie-ups with a lot of companies from the garment industry. The students, especially from NIFT Delhi, get jobs very easily in the industry. Industrial projects are given to the students which give students an upper hand in getting jobs. The college also helps students in getting jobs other than the placements.

Infrastructure: Being the oldest NIFT centre, the infrastructure is old but new buildings have been made, and the college has all the facilities. New parking area and hostels have been developed in the college. Renovation of the old building is done on a regular basis, and the college has its stationery and library.

  1. National Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai [NIFT]

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a group of fashion colleges in India. It was established in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and is an institution of design, management and technology for the international fashion business. NIFT was granted statutory status in 2006, empowering it to award degrees and other academic distinctions.

The institute has a board of governors,[5][6] under which its administration is headed by a director-general.

NIFT currently has 16 campuses: its main campus (headquarter and university head office ) in New Delhi, and campuses in Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Raebareli, Shillong, and Srinagar.[8]

A new 17th NIFT Campus at Panchkula, Haryana has been announced by the Minister of Textiles. A new center in Ompora Industrial area, Kashmir is expected to come up.[9]

NIFT offers four-year undergraduate, as well as two-year post-graduate, programmes in design, management, and technology.

To secure admission in Bachelor of Design (B.Des) as well as Master of Design (M.Des) programmes offered at NIFT, students need to take two written admission tests: the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT).

For technology and management programmes—Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech), Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech) and Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M)—aspirants need to qualify in national level entrance examination.

Candidates need to first appear for a written test. Students who make it to the rank-list in this test are then eligible to appear for the situation test for joining the design stream. For the fashion technology course only the written test score is required.

Post Graduate Diploma and PG Professional Diploma courses are validated by Domus Academy, Milan (Italy). Domus Academy was founded in Milan in 1982 as the first postgraduate design school in Italy, and as an open project focusing on the Italian Design and Fashion experience. As of May 2017 the institution has four centres in India: Delhi NCR West, the academy's oldest campus, located at Naraina; Delhi NCR East which is located in Noida sector 59;Pearl Academy Jaipur, located at Kukas; and the newest campus in Mumbai located in Andheri.

The Jaipur campus was designed by architects Morphogenesis and completed in 2008.[3] The design uses traditional cooling methods found in the desert environment of Rajasthan, such as a step-well in the centre and the use of Jali-inspired structures.[4] It won the award for 'Best Learning Building' at the World Architecture Festival awards held in Barcelona, Spain in 2009.[5] The Jaipur campus of Pearl Academy recently hosted the Jaipur Design Carnival. Jaipur Design Carnival was conceived as a designers’ festival to celebrate the power of design. Many creative practitioners from diverse fields design participated in the event. There were panel discussions, fashion show, live music, workshops and display of arte facts. The event was organized by the faculty and students of Pearl Academy Jaipur and the workshops were conducted by students of Pearl Jaipur.

The latest campus (Mumbai) was officially launched on 16 April 2014 by Sussanne Khan, Interior Designer and founder of design studio 'The Charcoal Project', who announced her support for students of the academy by way of Scholarships.
